Policies

Donation policy

How gifts to Monumental Recovery Foundation are handled — including refunds, recurring gifts, and what happens to your money once it reaches us.

Where your gift goes

Contributions fund scholarships that are paid directly to approved treatment programs on behalf of men who cannot afford extended care. Funds are never handed to an individual as cash. Every award is documented: the amount, the program, and the file behind the decision.

Programs must earn a place on our approved list before receiving a dollar — appropriate state licensure or certification, evidence-based practice, and a satisfactory health, safety, and ethics record. Our directors serve without compensation, and no part of the foundation's earnings may benefit a director, officer, or private individual.

Refunds

Donations are generally non-refundable, because gifts are committed to scholarship awards soon after they are received.

We make an exception for genuine mistakes. If you gave in error — the wrong amount, a duplicate charge, an unintended recurring gift, or a transaction you did not authorize — contact us within 30 days and we will refund it in full, no explanation required. Refunds are issued to the original payment method and typically appear within 5–10 business days.

To request a refund, email give@monumentalrecovery.org with the date and amount of the gift, or write to us at the address below.

Monthly recurring gifts

You may cancel a monthly gift at any time, with no minimum commitment and no cancellation fee.

To cancel, email give@monumentalrecovery.org from the address you used to give, or write to us. We will stop the recurring charge and confirm by email. Cancellations take effect before the next scheduled charge as long as we receive them at least two business days beforehand; if a charge has already gone through, we will refund that one on request.

You can also change the amount of a monthly gift — up or down — by contacting us the same way.

Disputes

If you see a charge from us you do not recognize, please contact us before filing a dispute with your bank. Charges appear on your statement as Monumental Recovery Foundation. We can almost always resolve a problem faster directly, and we would rather fix it than have you fight your card issuer about it.

If you do file a dispute, we will respond through Stripe with the transaction record. We do not contest refund requests made in good faith.

Restricted gifts

You may restrict a gift to a general purpose — scholarships, for example, or a particular kind of care — and we will honor that restriction. We cannot accept gifts earmarked for a named individual: doing so would compromise both our charitable purpose and your deduction. Awards are decided by our Scholarship Selection Committee and approved by the Board on the basis of eligibility and need.

For gifts of property, stock, or anything unusual, please talk to us before transferring so we can accept it properly under our gift acceptance policy.

Acknowledgment and tax treatment

We provide written acknowledgment for every contribution. Monumental Recovery Foundation is a Colorado nonprofit corporation organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, and our application for recognition as a 501(c)(3) organization is in process. Until the IRS issues our determination letter we cannot promise deductibility, and we will notify donors when it arrives. Please consult your own tax advisor about your situation.
